OMG it’s the August holiday weekend and tomorrow is the Civic Holiday! In Ontario we call it the Civic Holiday because it’s not designated as a Federal statutory holiday across Canada.
Civic refers to municipalities and each town or region can celebrate what’s important to them and choose their own name.
Oakville has named the holiday Emancipation Day, Burlington celebrates Joseph Brant Day, Toronto calls it Simcoe Day and of course, in Hamilton it’s George Hamilton Day. No matter what you call it, or what you celebrate, have fun tomorrow!
