Sunday is Ice Cream Day!
I scream, you scream, we all scream…. for Ice Cream and make that a “Triple Gooberberry Sunrise”
Kudos to President Reagan who back in 1984 designated Ice Cream Day on the third Sunday of July every year. Canada joined in on the fun and we celebrate too!
Ice cream dates back to China from 697 AD with a mixture of dairy, ice and salt, Think salty caramel.
Some say it dates back even further to Roman times before 476 AD when they gathered snow and enjoyed it with honey and fruit juices. Sounds like snow cones to me.
Vanilla is the favourite flavour in Canada and the United States. The oldest known recipe for ice cream is credited to Thomas Jefferson. The artifact for ‘Old Fashioned Vanilla Ice Cream’ is available at the Library of Congress, in Washington, DC.
The worlds largest ice cream sundae was made in Canada on July 24, 1984. Believe it or not, it weighed 25 tons and consisted of 63 different flavours. 25 tons can be compared to the weight of an average fire truck.
This weekend celebrate Ice Cream Day and head out to Oakville’s Towne Square for free Gelato provided by Nyla’s Room where you can find over 30 flavours of artisanal gelato. Click Here to go to Nyla’s Room website to find out more.
