   Meet Me In Oakville

Glen Abbey

Glen Abbey spans from the QEW (south) to Upper Middle Road (north) and from the Sixteen Mile Creek (east) to Bronte Road/Hwy 25 (west).

Glen Abbey was the first subdivision to be built north of the QEW in West Oakville. Development began in the late 70’s and continued until the late 90’s.  There’s a mix of homes, mostly 2 storey detached, town homes and a few condo buildings. Up until then West Oakville subdivisions below the QEW were 3 bedroom, 1 bath, single garage bungalows and side splits. With the Glen Abbey development  2 storey homes, with 2 or more baths, double garages, and bigger closets were built, these features attracted new home buyers.

Also known for the Glen Abbey Golf Course designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus, it hosted 30 Canadian Open Championships with the first being in 1977. It’s home to the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.  Tiger Woods hit his spectacular 18th hole shot at Glen Abbey in 2000 winning the tournament.

Recently the owner Club Link tried to develop the property to build residential units (over 3,200)  plus commercial units. After a long court battle they were defeated in 2021 and Glen Abbey Golf Course is going to stay as it is! The Town of Oakville has designated it a Heritage Site. Thank you to all those who spent tireless hours to take on Club Link and make this happen.
