Eastlake (Includes Morrison and Ford)

Million Dollar Homes! Love to look at them? I know I do!

Eastlake Neighbourhood in Oakville spans from Lake Ontario (south) to Cornwall Road (north) and from Winston Churchill (east) to Chartwell Road (west). Some of the homes on and close to Chartwell are included in the Old Oakville Neighbourhood. The Eastlake lakefront is known as Oakville’s Gold Coast where magnificent estates glitter the waterfront. To see how stunning these properties actually are take a summertime cruise from Oakville to Port Credit. Some of the historic estates can be seen in this Oakville Historical Society Exhibit: 150Years of Oakville  For a more recent version of estates Toronto Life has an article back from 2013: The Map: Who Lives Where  Things have changed over the past 10 years and it’s time for an updated version.

Ford Motor Company came to Oakville when the demand for cars grew after WWII. In 1953 it opened it’s Head Office and a new assembly plant in Oakville. It put Oakville on the map and Oakville has grown tremendously since then. Subdivisions including Ennisclare Park, Charnwood and Ford followed and new homes were built in the 1960’s and 70’s.  Many of these homes have been renovated or rebuilt. The Eastlake neighbourhood has large lots, is well treed and homes have beautiful gardens that can be seen in the summer months.

Highlights:

Gairloch Gardens consists of a park and gallery in an old homestead located south of Lakeshore near Morrison Road. The gallery is an old home on the estate of the late James Gairdner, who, in 1971, bequeathed his estate to the Town of Oakville, with the wish that the residence, and the land immediately adjacent to it, be used as an art gallery and public park.

Edgemere Promenade can be found at the bottom of Maplegrove Road. The Lakefront space was retrieved by the Town of Oakville when Edgemere Estates were built. The original 14 acre estate was built in 1905 by James Ryrie who merged his jewellry business with Birks. In the early 1990’s Home Builder Mogul Peter Giligan replaced it with a 32,000 sq ft mega mansion. The home decor and finishes were true to the 90’s rose and green era and Mattamy Homes. The land was sold and mansion torn down to make room for Edgemere Estates. Take a short walk along the promenade and enjoy the lakeside view.

Joshua’s Valley Park is a forest trail park maintained by the Town of Oakville. The park spans 2 kilometres from the lake through the centre of south-east Oakville along Joshua Creek. The park is family-friendly and frequented by locals who mountain bike, run and hike.

Canlan Ice Sports: A multi-purpose recreation and entertainment facility featuring 4 NHL-sized ice rinks. The sports complex also includes an event room, a sports shop and a Wild Wing restaurant. Located at the 403 & Ford Drive, it’s a bustling complex for young and old hockey lovers alike.

Closest Dog Parks:
Post Dog Park: Well wooded, sizeable dog park hidden at Chartwell and MacDonald . You’ll find friendly dogs with their families, places to sit and a water hose. The surface is wood mulch and there’s parking.
Lakeside Dog Park: East of Winston Churchill on the lake next door in Mississauga. It features a seven acre leash free zone on Lake Ontario with a surrounding pedestrian path.
Kingsford Dog Park: Located at Sherwood Heights and Kingsway Drive in Clearview. Fenced In off leash area and an On leash trail.
